Mike Ovens served in the Royal Navy for 25 years where he rose through the ranks to commissioned officer. His final post was as a Fleet Controller at the Permanent Joint Headquarters, Northwood. Like most servicemen, Mike’s roles have been wide and varied, and he’s seen active service in the Falklands, and both Gulf Wars. Having qualified as a specialist Warfare Officer in 1994, he was rewarded with an exchange appointment to the Royal Australian Navy, where he lived and travelled extensively for two and a half years. He’s a fully qualified Navy diver and diving instructor, he’s taught Maths and English to young recruits, and whilst at sea has taught circuit classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced participants. As a former Royal Navy/Combined Services 800m/400m competitor he’s used his experience to coach athletes from novice to advanced levels. He’s also written gym programmes and has an in-depth knowledge of weight-training techniques and principles. Mike now regularly participates in middle distance and Cross Country events, and is a member of Hailsham Harriers Running Club, in East Sussx.


Fiona Bugler joined the fitness industry in 1998 and is a fully qualified Personal Trainer (Level 3 Advanced Instructor, Register of Exercise Professionals). Fitness qualifications include, Premier Personal Training Diploma and YMCA qualifications: Exercise to Music, Ante and Post-natal, Aqua and Circuits. She’s also taught Les Mills Body Balance classes, and has an interest in Yoga. She started running in 2002 when she gave up smoking and has since run several marathons, an ultra marathon, half marathons, and 10ks and a number of other races – also a competitive member of Hailsham Harriers Running Club, in East Sussex. Fiona followed a BA (hons) degree in Politics with a post grad diploma and career in journalism, specialising in health and fitness writing and compiling workouts. She’s been a regular contributor to newspapers, websites and magazines. Her Level 2 coaching qualification with UK Athletics and other training is ongoing.

Pilates

Alison Mitchell is the owner of the Natural Fitness Centre, Eastbourne which she set up in November 2002 with a view to creating the perfect space for practising Yoga, Pilates and complimentary therapies. Having practised Yoga and Pilates herself she qualified to teach with Pilates Training Solutions.

Mary Thornton has a background in physiotherapy, and specialises in muscle in-balance analysis – particularly relevant to runners. She has numerous Pilates qualifications covering clinical Pilates, Stott matwork, full equipment based training with Pilate Foundation UK. She has worked with the University of Brighton’s Sportswise team, Pilates Foundation UK, and the NHS – using Pilates as an exercise regime, and treatment tool.

Nutrition

Lucy Ann Prideaux, is a registered Nutritionist (RNutr) with The Nutrition Society, having graduated with an MSc degree in Human Nutrition and Metabolism from Aberdeen University in 1997. As a past competitive triathlete, and with a first class BSc degree in Sport and Exercise Science, Lucy-Ann is also an experienced authority on sports nutrition at elite and recreational level, as well as on health and fitness training. She owns Simply Nutrition.

Nutrition (energy gels), Footwear, Tri training

Simon Underwood, HND sport science, sports masseur, three times Ironman finisher, GB Long course triathlon age group representative. Simon works at Eastbourne’s Tri Store and formerly worked with Nike footwear specialists. He practices what he preaches – as his performances show.

Massage

Stuart Doree qualified with the London School of Sports Massage in 2003. He’s a member of and insured by the Sports Massage Association. He’s an experienced masseur and has dealt with many runners at events such as The London Marathon, The London Triathlon, The Eastbourne Half Marathon, The Seven Sisters Marathon, and the Southend 10k. He also works closely with football and rugby clubs, and is a part-time employee at a physiotherapy

Emma Maines LSSM (Dip) MSMA MISRM qualified with the London School of Sports Massage in 2005. She’s been a professional ballet dancer for the last 10 years, and has appeared frequently with the Royal Opera Company, Covent Garden, and the English National Opera. She’s worked at the London Triathlon, and Fleet Half marathon. She also works at the David Lloyd Centre.

Pampering

Linda Veness is a qualified ITEC consultant, and a member Of The International Council Of Holistic Therapists. She has a Diploma in Reflexology and Massage and is Certified in Aromatherapy Massage. She’s also practioner of HOPI Ear Therapy and Indian Head Massage.
